Computer Printers - What Are They, and What Can They Do?

printers are devices that make a hard copy of data or information stored on your computer in electronic form. A hard copy is physical copy of text and/or graphics that is printed onto paper or other mediums.

Most printers are mostly used as peripherals and and are hard wired to the computer which serves as the document source. Some printers have built in wireless networking capabilities that allow it to be used in a wireless network at home or in the office. This can be used to make a hard copy of information from any computer connected to the network.

Wireless Printer Setup

Besides functioning in a network setting, most modern printers can print directly from a built in interface from electronic media such as a memory card from a digital camera.

Some printers have a scanner and/or fax motor built in, these are known as All-In-One printing units. They can also function as a copy motor by scanning in a document, and then printing it.

Computer printers are typically made for low volume print jobs that need almost no setup time to make a hard copy of a document. They are commonly slow devices, that have a relatively high cost per page compared to other methods. If a printer can print ten pages per diminutive it us ordinarily determined fast.

Printers won't replace a printing press. A printing press is designed and optimized to print hundreds of pages per minute. So this will always be the best route for high volume expert publishing.

Printers have been advancing with technology and as such the field of desktop publishing is expanding. Many jobs that used to be handled by a expert print shop are now being handled by computer printers.
